Five must-have features in a pre engineered steel warehouse

Warehouses are large buildings that are used for inventory storage, most popular in e-commerce, pharmaceutical and food grain storage industries among all. Today, most warehouses are pre engineered, unlike few decades back when they used to be built with brick and mortar mostly. In the recent years, pre engineered steel warehouses have gained acceptance due to sustainability and cost effectiveness. Other than this, there are many other advantages like fast construction, lower maintenance, expansion flexibility and much more.

In this blog post, we will look at some of the important factors for consideration while building a warehouse as follows:

  1. High ceiling

Majority of the businesses including e-commerce companies rent warehouses for storage of goods, before distribution. So these goods are piled up in the warehouses in high racks. Thus, a ceiling height of around 12 meters is considered optimum in these warehouses for the proper stacking and storage of materials.

  1. Continuous canopy on loading/unloading bays

Since storage is the primary purpose of a warehouse, it is expected that a lot of loading/unloading happens throughout the day on the bays. Therefore, we recommend that warehouses should have multiple docks and a continuous canopy across all of them. If your warehouse is in an area that witnesses heavy rainfall, the canopy will protect your goods from getting spoil.

  1. Multiple docs or openings

In a warehouse, loading and unloading is an everyday activity. Therefore we recommend building multiple bays or openings so that on high traffic days, there isn’t too many trucks waiting their turn, which in turn can delay product delivery.

  1. Insulated shed for protection of goods

Insulated sheds are of utmost importance  in a warehouse, so as to protect your goods from rain, moisture, mildew, excessive heat etc. Reflective insulation panels are recommended for this purpose. It provides a dry and clean environment and is also easy to install.

  1. Fire safety precautions

Warehouses house goods that your business is dependent on. Therefore it is important to take fire safety precautions, to avoid potential fire damage that can cause losses worth crores. For this purpose, we recommend using rockwool insulation panels which has fire resistive capabilities. Other than this, installation of fire hydrants and sprinklers are a must.
